I really wanted to work on painting reflections and scoured the house looking for suitable items to set up in a still life. The vase in this painting is now my favourite – I love the mix of flat and highly reflective areas – so much fun to paint.
The red fabric gave me a chance to practice some classical style glazes to really bring out the rich red colour. I thought that the glass would be the biggest challenge but it turned out to be the metal candlestick holder. I had to paint it twice.
I developed my oil painting technique so much working on this and love the results.
