Value painting in progress. Shapes in monochrome

Painters Online Tutorial

I am thrilled to have my first tutorial published for Painters Online Studio Members.

I decided to concentrate on one of the most important skills an artist can develop – seeing and painting values. Using basic shapes in different shades of grey, I set up a still life and show how to paint and alter the values to create a cohesive painting. It’s called ‘How to See and Paint Relative Values‘ and I use oil paints but the techniques learnt are applicable to all media.

Studio membership is great value and includes digital copies of both The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines. I hope you find it of use — I’d appreciate any feedback and suggestions for further tutorials.
